2025 Presidential Election : Paul Biya’s Candidacy Papers Submitted - Site Web Officiel du Journal L'Action

The candidacy of President Paul Biya, National President of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, was officially submitted today, 17 July 2025 at the headquarters of the Elections Cameroon in Yaounde.

The candidacy papers were formally deposited by Jean Nkuété, Secretary General of the CPDM Central Committee, accompanied by a high-ranking delegation including Samuel Mvondo Ayolo, Director of the Civil Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, and senior party cadres Monkam Nintcheu Fabien, Prof. Paul Célestin Ndembiyembe, and Prof. Dieudonné Oyono.

In remarks to the press following the submission, Jean Nkuété expressed confidence in both the democratic maturity of the nation and the electoral process. “Our state of mind is confident. I believe that, thanks to the stability and dynamic evolution of our country, this election will take place under favorable conditions. We have just submitted the candidacy file of the National President of the CPDM and President of the Republic. We are fully aware that the Cameroonian people are mature enough to distinguish between what has been accomplished, what is currently being done, and what is being proposed. This awareness will lead them to give the Head of State the resounding score we are hoping for. We intend to be just as serious in the electoral campaign, the real battlefield as we have been in supporting the President of the Republic in preserving peace in our country, which remains the key to development.”

As the ninth candidate to formally submit his candidacy ahead of the July 21 deadline, the act is emblematic of the CPDM’s enduring organizational discipline and political maturity, which have been hallmarks of the New Deal policy since its inception.By August 11, 2025, Elecam must verify the admissibility of all files and forward compliant ones to the Constitutional Council. The Constitutional Council then has 15 days to rule on the final list of candidates. The official roster is expected to be published by September 5, 2025. Once finalized, the official campaign period will begin, culminating in the nationwide vote on October 12, 2025.
